#14 Mental Health Support
Mental health impacts everyone. Depression, addiction, physical and emotional trauma, violence, and PTSD are just a few of the factors that impact the mental health of tens of thousands of Baltimore residents.
Why it matters
While mental health is an incredibly broad, varied, and complex topic that cannot be reduced to a single problem, issues that negatively impact residents’ quality of life often also negatively impact residents’ mental health. For example, the isolation and depression of an aging older woman are likely to be exacerbated by a lack of mobility and access to transportation. As another, very different example, an army veteran who has both PTSD and alcoholism will likely struggle to connect with the resources he needs if he has a small support system, lacks a stable job, and is in an unsafe home environment.
What does "good" look like?
While there is no single solution to mental health or even to one facet of mental health, creating a better support system for residents and connecting them with the resources they need to live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives is a step in the right direction.
How could technology solve this?
Unclear -- don't want to assume that there is a simple fix to this highly complex problem without more research.
